Nyack, NY (Our Favorite)

As someone lucky enough to call Nyack home, I can tell you - this village has a way of stealing your heart. Life here is like living in a charming postcard, but with a funky, artsy twist. Our riverside village has everything from stunning views to a lively downtown scene that always seems to have something going on. Whether it’s a farmers market, street fair, or one of those parades where half the town shows up. And trust me, you’ll want to be part of it all. But, on those rare days when you’re in the mood to wander, there are some nearby gems in Rockland County just waiting to be explored.

A Brief History, But Stick Around for the Fun Part

Nyack has been around since the days when horse-drawn carriages and wooden boats ruled the scene. It got its start in the 17th century as a modest riverside village. Fast forward a few centuries, and it's now a bustling artsy town that attracts everyone from weekend travelers to die-hard foodies. Sure, it’s got history, but this town’s present is where the real fun begins.

Why Nyack Is the Place to Be

Picture this: you start your morning with a walk along the river, watching sailboats drift by as the sun glistens on the water. Afterward, you grab a coffee and wander down Main Street, where you’re greeted by friendly waves, art galleries, and bookshops that practically beg you to step inside. There’s always something happening here—a street fair, a pop-up art show, or a food festival.

And if you’re into people-watching, trust me, Nyack’s got you covered. Whether it's someone walking their pet that looks like it came from a comic strip or a street performer playing the saxophone as if the river itself inspired them, this place has personality. We’ve also got plenty of parks for those lazy afternoons when you just want to spread out a picnic blanket or watch the sunset paint the sky over the Hudson.

In the summer, Nyack’s riverfront park becomes a hotspot for outdoor concerts, while fall brings vibrant colors to our tree-lined streets and the famous Halloween parade that draws visitors from all over. Nyack is the perfect blend of cozy and lively, where you can explore local shops, grab a bite, and catch live music - all within a few blocks.

And don’t be surprised if you hear a ghost story or two while you’re in town. Nyack has its fair share of local legends, including tales of haunted houses and mysterious happenings. Whether or not you believe in spirits, it’s all part of the town’s quirky charm and makes for great conversation over dinner.

A Foodie’s Delight

Though small in size, Nyack is home to a surprisingly diverse food scene. Whether you’re a fan of farm-to-table dining, global cuisine, or just a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, the town has you covered. Think charming cafes where you can sit for hours people-watching or grabbing a quick bite at a local bakery with the fluffiest pastries you’ve ever tasted. And the restaurants range from cozy, intimate spots with locally sourced ingredients to casual eateries serving up mouthwatering dishes with a twist.

The weekly farmers’ market is also a major draw. Local vendors bring in fresh produce, artisan goods, and baked delights that tempt even the most disciplined of shoppers. It’s the kind of place where a quick visit turns into a long morning of chatting with friendly vendors and sampling everything from handcrafted cheeses to homemade jams.
